Working with FM systems
Friends of FAID donated 7 class room sets of Personal FM systems to the school. FM systems are systems where a teacher has lapel mic which transmits directly to the students hearing aid. These systems help to enable students to hear and understand their teacher's talking more clearly and with less distracting background noise. This means that the student will understand better and quicker what the teacher tells them. It also helps the student to develop their listening and understanding skills. In other words it helps a deaf person to use his/her hearing + hearing aid to the full.
As one teacher put it; "You know if the system is on, the students are smiling when you talk."
These photo's were taken when some of the students could hear the teacher's voice for the first time.
